Hi everyone,

Following up on Adam’s wonderful two posts about tap dancing in the movies, here is some info about how and where to find a tap dance class in your area. I thought it might be helpful to those of you who are looking to start learning tap for the first time, or for those of you who have taken tap before and are looking to get back into it.

(1) Classes in the NYC area:

My favorite teacher in the NYC is Ray Hesselink. He teaches at Broadway Dance Center and Steps. From Ray’s website: “Ray’s Tap Class emphasizes technique through warm-up, across the floor, tap turns and combination. His style is greatly inspired by the MGM films of the 1930-50’s reminiscent of such tap greats as Fred Astaire, Eleanor Powell and Ann Miller. Ray uses intricate rhythms and fun footwork to create challenging, musical and entertaining choreography.”

There are many other great teachers in NYC. A good handful of them teach at BDC and Steps (see links above and search for tap classes). Tap classes are usually in the $10-15 range.

(2) Classes worldwide:

Click on your area to find links to studios that offer tap classes.

(3) Learn from home on DVD:

Want to learn from the privacy of your home? There are several good DVDs on the market, including an instructional DVD that I offer. I recommend that you read reviews of various videos that are out there and decide which video is best for you. See tap dance instructional DVDs on Amazon.com

Hope that helps, and feel free to email me anytime @ eli@tapdancemadeeasy.com
